Hotmail finally has allowed you to fully use POP to control your own e-mail. Unfortunately you have to upgrade to Hotmail plus. This cost $19.95 per year. While this is really annoying, for me its worth it because I’ve had a Hotmail address for years. If you pay for it you don’t have to use any hacks or anything, just configure your Apple mail client as follows.

1) If you have not done so already. Upgrade your account to Hotmail plus. http://get.live.com/mailplus/features

2) Open your Mail program. Select Preferences from the Mail menu.

2) Select the Accounts tab. And click the little “+” button at the bottom left of the window to add and account.

3) Enter your name, Hotmail E-mail address and password.

4)Set your Incoming mail server to pop3.live.com. Your username should be your full email address.

Incoming Mail Server

5) Outgoing Mail server should be set to smtp.live.com. All the SSL and Authentication boxes should be checked t.

Your ready to go. Enjoy checking your mail off-line.

I Just purchased a new MacBook after my old Ibook finally died. After getting all my basic software installed I needed to install my stack (Apache web server, PHP, FTP server etc) for development. While you can download and install everything piece by piece, the easiest way is to download a bundle. I used XMAPP<.

The install is even simpler than the directions they give

1)Download and uncompress the newest version

2)Open Applications>Xampp Control Panel

3) Click “Start all components”… Youre up and running.

4) Open your web browser and go to “http://localhost/” where you will have easy access to many of the functions!

This Blog will document technical solutions and work-arounds that I have come up with in my work. Welcome to my blog. I hope you find it useful.
